What’s Involved in a Motorcycle Roadworthy Inspection?
To help you prepare for your Roadworthy Inspection, we’ve outlined the key components of what’s checked. For comprehensive details and the latest information, please refer to the VIC Roads website.
What the Certificate of Roadworthiness Inspection Covers:
The inspection verifies that essential components are in suitable condition for safe road use. It includes:
Wheels and Tyres
Steering, Suspension, and Braking Systems
Seats and Seat Belts
Lights and Reflectors
Exhaust system and muffler compliance
Windscreen and Windows (including front wipers and washers)
Vehicle Structure
Other Safety-Related Items on the Body, Chassis, or Engine
What Is Not Covered:
Please note that the roadworthy inspection does not assess:
Mechanical Reliability: The overall condition or wear of the vehicle.
Non-Safety Related Accessories: Items such as air conditioning, rear window demisters, electric windows, and rear-window wipers.
Post-Inspection Functionality: Components, such as brake lights, may fail after the inspection.
Compliance with Australian Design Rules (ADRs): The inspection does not confirm ADR compliance.
